Charities

In addition to sponsoring many social activities and events, Cyclone Corvettes Inc. provides financial support to worthy charities each year. The members nominate any charities they deem worthy of receiving our support. They are then voted on by the board with the top 3 in the voting  getting the nod for being our official  recipients. The following listed charities will be our 2020 recipients.

Iowa Veterans’ Home - Marshalltown
IVH has been a long-time recipient of club donations and “wish-list” contributions and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of club members. Located in Marshalltown, Iowa, IVH’s mission is to provide a continuum of care to Iowa’s veterans and their spouses in an environment focusing on individualized services to enhance their quality of life. One of the largest of the 153 state-owned facilities for veterans in the nation, IVH residents number 565+ and enjoy many services, including medical, nursing, resident support, barber and beauty shop, laundry, library, and mail.

Ronald McDonald House Charities – Des Moines
Opening in Des Moines in 1981, Ronald McDonald House is another long-time club charity, receiving outright monetary donations, gifts at Christmas, and tab donations for the Pull Tab Collection Program. RMHC provides stability and resources for families everywhere whose children are undergoing hospitalizations and medical treatment. Direct donations to RMHC help with housing near a hospitalized child, covering expenses of staying together in another city, or even getting basic medical and dental care in a vulnerable community.

Butterfly Freedom House – Ames
Designed to help women who have been incarcerated find hope and success as they re-enter society. Mandatory programming is brought into the house where the women can learn about different life skills. Their mission is to encourage residents to pursue their faith as they rebuild their lives in Ames and transition back into the community. Each woman must get a job and contribute financially toward her stay at Butterfly Freedom House, while receiving discipleship, mentoring, and applicable programming. Butterfly Freedom House receives no state or federal funding but is supported through local individuals, organizations, and church donations.

Mainstream Living - Ames
The mission of Mainstream Living (ML) is to “enhance opportunities, create success, and fulfill dreams.” ML serves adults with disabilities and brain injuries, adults and young adults with psychiatric and mental disabilities, and medically fragile adults. ML provides housing, medical, employment, counseling, community integration, and a variety of other supportive services. The individuals and families supported by ML have a variety of needs, all of which are met within the communities where they live. Because each person’s needs and abilities are different and can change over time, ML provides a full range of community-based residential and non-residential supports.
